Two engines, one market
Google handles most searches here, as in most of Europe. Seznam, the Czech portal and search engine, still serves a meaningful share of Czech users, and it runs services businesses care about: Firmy.cz for company listings and Mapy.cz for maps. If your customers are local, ignoring Seznam means ignoring part of your market.
Where Seznam differs
- Local listings run through Seznam’s own products. A Google Business Profile does not put you on Seznam’s maps. Your Firmy.cz and Mapy.cz presence does that work, so check both.
- Its crawler behaves differently. Check that your robots rules don’t block it by accident, and don’t assume pages that work for Google work for Seznam. Test, don’t guess.
- Heavy JavaScript is a risk. Content that appears only after scripts run may be missed by some crawlers. Make sure the important text is in the page itself.
- Czech-language quality counts. Machine-translated pages read badly and perform badly. Diacritics, natural phrasing and correct language declarations matter.
What to check this week
- Search for your business name on Google and on Seznam. Do they show the same address, phone number and hours?
- Open your Firmy.cz profile. Is it claimed and complete?
- Check your robots rules for anything that blocks crawlers you want.
- View your key pages with scripts disabled. Is the main content still there?
- Read your Czech pages out loud. Do they sound like a person wrote them?
What we don’t claim
We can’t promise rankings on either engine. We can make sure you are visible, consistent and reachable on both. That is the work behind our Local SEO service, and it applies to websites too.
